Oldham Cricket Club were founder members of the Central Lancashire League in 1892, along with Bury, Heywood, Littleborough, Milnrow, Radcliffe, Royton, Todmorden and Walsden. We left after two seasons, but rejoined soon after in 1900. Since then we have had continuous membership of the league.
The league began as a nine club competition, and fluctuated between nine and ten members up until 1901, when Dukinfield, Glossop and Moorside all joined. The addition of Longsight in 1907 brought the total to fourteen for the first time. The league never grew beyond this size until 1981, when Norden and Hyde brought the total to sixteen. Stockport’s resignation left the league with only fifteen teams until 2006. Monton & Weaste successfully applied to replace them in 2005, but Stand’s departure meant that Clifton restored the balance the following year.
The league holds competitions at First, Second, Third, Under 18, Under 15, Under 13 and Under 11 levels.
